Revolution and Empowerment are grand themes this year, on the streets and in the minds of young or hopeful citizens in many parts of the world. This remarkable year of 2011 is also a time when several of the most interesting new films are pointed examples of personal empowerment or about the role social activism can play in self-empowerment, or about the dramas of recent political revolutions.

We draw your attention to these films at VIFF 2011, a timely theme supported by the Lochmaddy Foundation.
